Intersectional representation in online media discourse: reflecting anti-discrimination position in reporting on same-sex partnerships

The theory of intersectionality has been broadly used in various research but we notice a persistent gap reflecting its application to media analysis. In our study, focus on the concept “representational intersectionality” which Kimberlé Crenshaw uses illustrate dynamics between different discourses. Taking example online reporting same-sex partnerships Slovenia, analyze how power relations are reinforced when one type discourse fails acknowledge importance other Our analysis based Norman Fairclough demonstrates that discourses advocated equality heterosexual and couples Slovenia did not recognize specifying contexts social exclusion this non-recognition weakened their strengthened directed against them. main contribution study is show intersectionality, focusing representation location, can be useful within critical analysis, specifically reflect anti-discrimination position reporting.
